Out and about at The Chinese University of Hong Kong

For information on how to get to CUHK/the Hyatt from the airport, see this link. If you're taking the train to CUHK, take the East Rail line (light blue — NOT dark blue) and get off at the University station. Take Exit A. If you're staying at the Hyatt near the university, walk through the train station to the other side, to enter campus.

From Mon to Wed at 9:10am, there will be a shuttle bus leaving for the workshop venue at the University train station. The bus will be in the parking lot on the left when you get out from Exit A. A map for shuffle stop location, walk-up guide along electric escalators, etc, can be found here.

If you miss the bus, or would just prefer stretching your legs and walking, be warned — the The Chinese University of Hong Kong has a fairly hilly campus — most people go to considerable lengths to find paths of minimal elevation gain to get from place to place. Below is a map of campus, with the University station, and the workshop venue (William M.W. Mong Engineering Building) highlighted, and suggested walking routes. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the train station to the workshop venue.

The workshop venue is on the 10th floor of the building. Note that the express elevators in the building only stop on the ground, 4th and 9th floors, though the non-express elevator stops at every floor.

If you do not feel like breakfast at your hotel, reasonable and cheap breakfasts are available at Maxim's restaurant at the University train station. (If you're vegetarian, you might want to instead get some buns from the Maxim's bakery next to the 7-Eleven — do check carefully to see the fillings are vegetarian, too.) For the culinary adventurers, more campus dining options, and other campus information (such as ATM locations) are available here.

In case of any problems, feel free to call Sidharth (Sid) Jaggi at +852 9313 3170 (cheap SIM cards, for about 50 HKD, are available at most 7-Elevens, including the one at the University train station).
